“Someone must extinguish thy flame”

said Margit. He’s right, you know. We can’t write about great Souslborne bosses forever, as much as we’d like to. So here today are our most loved from The Lands Between. Do any of them match up to our Lady Maria, or Artorias? Here are parts I and II in case you missed them.

Demigods and Desolation: Top 5 Elden Ring Boss Fights

The Lands Between, the sprawling world of Elden Ring, is filled with formidable foes. From demigods wielding incredible power to nightmarish creatures lurking in the shadows, each boss encounter is a unique test of skill and strategy. Here's a look at the top 5 Elden Ring boss fights that truly capture the essence of this epic adventure:

5. Malenia, Blade of Miquella:

A fearsome warrior wielding powerful scarlet rot attacks, Malenia is a formidable opponent. The fight takes place in a ruined scarlet flower field, adding to the desperate and desolate atmosphere. Malenia's flurry of attacks and her signature "Waterfowl Dance" combo can decimate the unprepared. Mastering dodging and aggressive tactics is key to overcoming this ferocious foe. The music throughout the fight is intense and fast-paced, further emphasising the frantic dance of blades you'll be engaged in. If you are online, consider summoning ‘Let Me Solo Her’ to help and let them, well, you know…

4. Starscourge Radahn:

This spectacle of a fight throws you into a festival atmosphere amidst a crumbling castle. Radahn, a colossal demigod wielding twin greatswords, is a fearsome foe. The first phase is a unique experience – you can summon a multitude of spectral warriors to aid you in taking down the demigod. The second phase sees Radahn unleash his true power, raining down devastating gravitational magic and charging with incredible force. The sheer scale of this fight, the epic music, and the interesting first phase mechanic make Starscourge Radahn a truly memorable encounter.

3. Morgott, the Omen King:

Morgott's fight is a thrilling display of cursed power and desperate rage. He wields a cursed blade and unleashes spectral attacks that can quickly overwhelm the unprepared. The music throughout the fight is a haunting melody, perfectly capturing the tragedy of Morgott's character. The arena itself is a desolate throne room, remnants of a lost kingdom. Morgott's second phase introduces even more potent attacks, forcing players to master dodging and well-timed counters. The lore implications behind Morgott and the atmosphere of the fight make this encounter a highlight of the Elden Ring experience.

2. Mohg, Lord of Blood (Mohgwyn Palace):

This optional encounter (although it’s not anymore if you want to access the DLC…) with Mohg offers a completely different experience to the other time in the game when you face him. Here, you face Mohg in his prime, wielding two crimson greatswords and unleashing devastating blood magic attacks. The fight takes place in a seemingly deserted palace bathed in an eerie red glow. Mohg's attacks are faster and more aggressive in this encounter, demanding precise dodging and well-timed counters. The music is a faster-paced, more urgent version of the Mohg fight in the sewers, reflecting the heightened intensity of the encounter. Conquering this optional Mohg is a true challenge for seasoned players..which is why it’s the way to the Shadow of the Erdtree, obviously.

1. Godfrey, First Elden Lord (and Hoarah Loux, Warrior Chieftain):

This epic encounter is a two-part spectacle that perfectly encapsulates the themes of Elden Ring. Godfrey, the first Elden Lord, is a formidable warrior wielding an axe and imbued with incredible earth power. The first phase is a thrilling display of martial prowess, with both Godfrey and the player character trading blows in a dance of destruction. The music throughout this phase is a powerful orchestral piece, reflecting the grandeur of the fight. The second phase sees Godfrey transform into the ferocious Hoarah Loux, Warrior Chieftain. This primal beast fights with raw power and devastating grabs, forcing you to be aggressive and exploit openings. The sheer brutality of the second phase, the contrasting styles of both Godfrey forms, and the epic music make this fight a true masterpiece of boss design in Elden Ring.

And there ends our trip through the Soulsborne series from Dark Souls to Elden Ring. Time for just one more thing:

"It was a great honor to rank your bosses during my time here. Allow me to c-call you this, just once, before it ends. My lords, f-for that is what you are."

I've been gaming for 35+ years on the Commodore VIC-20 to the PlayStation 5 and pretty much everything in-between. I enjoy all kinds of games but if I had to pick a couple in particular, I'd say I adore Mario and love Dark Souls. I can talk about either an awful lot should you want to!
