12 Minutes is an interactive time loop thriller developed by Luis Antonio and published by Annapurna Interactive. An Xbox and PC exclusive, it is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated indie games of the year.

Set to release sometime in 2021 — perhaps we’ll find out at the Xbox Press Conference? — the game takes place in a small apartment, in which one man will relive the same 12 minutes over and over again. However, even the slightest alteration can change how the story plays out.

Showcased during the Tribeca Games Spotlight presentation, we got a new glimpse at 12 Minutes in action.

“Usually when you think about narrative, you think about a linear progression,” says Antonio.

The game’s creator is heavily influenced by film — something that is evident from watching a small section of 12 Minutes play out.

“I wanted to create something that is very accessible” Antonio continues, explaining his choice regarding the game’s top-down perspective and ‘point and click’ style control scheme. Although he admits that this did cause some issues when it came to conveying emotion when you can’t see the character’s faces.

Thankfully, 12 Minutes has an all-star cast. James McAvoy and Daisy Ridley star as the game’s leads with Ridley discussing how vital it is to get any emotion across using only her voice.

“Particularly because you don’t see our faces in it, you really are projecting whatever you’re feeling onto the character”, says the actor. “Where you go in the game, I think, will depend on you as an individual”.

12 Minutes launches later this year. Watch the full clip (courtesy of Gamespot) below:
