Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 was unveiled during Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct on Tuesday. A staple franchise for Sega and Nintendo — and an allegory for the two companies’ now friendly rivalry — it makes its debut on the Nintendo Switch in November 2019.
Mario, Sonic and friends from both sides will meet at the Tokyo Olympics to compete in everything from hurdles and javelin, football and tennis. The new game will also include four new additions: “Skateboarding, Karate, Surfing, and Sport Climbing”.
The range of mini-games in the trailer (above) at least gives us an idea that this could be a fun and varied party game. Although playing as Nintendo and Sega characters in a football match only makes us long for a sequel to Super Mario Strikers.
