The Simpsons classic arcade game is getting the Arcade 1Up treatment ahead of its 30th Anniversary, the company has announced.
Originally released in 1991, the classic four-player beat ‘em up will have up to four players basking in 90s nostalgia. Playing as either Homer, Marge, Bart or Lisa, the Simpson family must save Maggie by fighting off a variety of goons hired by Mr Burns.
It’s a great little game and one that I’ll take every opportunity to play on a visit to Arcade Club (other arcades are available). Like many Arcade 1UP cabinets, The Simpsons will be joined by another game although you’ll have to wait until pre-orders start on July 15th to find out what it is.
The machine itself looks beautiful, recreating the classic arcade machine in a way that won’t dominate whatever room you put it in. The faithful cabinet art is a big part of the appeal with these machines, after all, adding to the semi-authentic arcade experience.
I put Arcade 1UP's Galaga / Galaxian machine to the test back in 2019. You can read the full review of that here.
Pricing for The Simpsons machine has yet to be announced. However, with machines like the 4-player Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles retailing at £329.99, you can expect this to be on the pricey side. Still, it’s more affordable than a vintage machine that’s for sure.
