Hideo Kojima Making Game He's "Always Wanted to Make" With Xbox | Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2022
Hideo Kojima appeared at the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase on Sunday to officially announce a partnership between Xbox Game Studios and his own Kojima Productions to create a game the legendary auteur developer has “always wanted to make”.
“It's a completely new game, one that no one has ever experienced or seen before,” Kojima said in a pre-recorded video. He continues: "I've waited very long for the day I could finally start to create it. With Microsoft's cutting-edge cloud technology and the change in the industry's trend, it has now become possible to challenge myself to make this never-before-seen concept. It may take some time, but I'm looking forward to teaming up with Xbox Game Studios and hope to bring you some exciting news in the future!”
Closing with a “Thank You” to the watching audience, Kojima managed to say both very little and quite a bit during his brief appearance. Speculation will now run rife — as it always does with Kojima — as to what Microsoft’s cloud technology could be powering Kojima Productions’ new game. However, a lack of any details suggests that whatever the game is it could be some time before we see it.
Consistently aligned with the PlayStation brand since the release of Metal Gear Solid, having Kojima create something exclusively for the Xbox platform will be seen as a big win for Microsoft. However, per Polygon, Kojima Productions stated its continued independence and strong relationship with PlayStation in a series of tweets posted on Monday.
Kojima Productions last released Death Stranding: Director’s Cut on PlayStation and PC in 2021.
