Sony Registers Sunset Overdrive Trademark

Sony has registered a trademark for Sunset Overdrive. The news comes via Nibel on Twitter, who links to a filing made by Sony on April 26th.

Until now Sunset Overdrive has only been made available on Xbox and PC. Of course, this filing is not necessarily indicative of an official announcement. However, it’s worth noting that Insomniac Games does still own the IP for the game.

An action adventure shooter with an off the wall style, Sunset Overdrive was acclaimed by critics and has attained somewhat of a cult status amongst fans. The game was a launch title for the Xbox One in 2014.

Sony acquired Insomniac Games in 2019 following the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man. Since the acquisition, the developer has released PS5 launch title Spider-Man: Miles Morales and will also release Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on June 11th.
